Need for Second Green Revolution ♦ The time is now ripe for Second Green Revolution ♦ In Second Green Revolution emphasis is should be laid on: 1. Non food grains 2. Improving global market opportunities 3. Improving rural infrastructure 4. Improving irrigation, rural roads and rural electrification. ♦ Increasing agricultural productivity, ♦ generating rural employment and ♦ developing technology to conserve water and energy Objectives of the Second Green Revolution ♦ To raise agricultural productivity to promote food security ♦ More emphasis on bio-technology ♦ To promote sustainable agriculture ♦ To become self sufficient in staple food, pulses, oil seeds, and industrial raw material ♦ To increase the per capita income of the farmers ♦ The holistic framework, thus, must incorporate rural infrastructure such as irrigation, roads and power The GOI as a effort to make 2nd green revolution implemented ♦ Following Programmes: a) National Horticulture Mission-2005 b) Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana-2007 c) National Food Security Mission-2007 ♦ d) Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture-2014-15  ♦ e) Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-2015 ♦ f) Neeranchal- Watershed Development ♦ g) National Adaptation for Climate Change ♦ h) Soil Health Card to Every Farmer-2016 Challenges of Second Green Revolution • Second green revolution may take a long time to show its effect • Use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides would not stop at one go • Farmers might not adopt technology for farming implementation challenge. • Indigenous pest control methods are not full proof • Assessment of water consumption would be difficult CONCLUSION India need second green revolution to bring food and nutritional security to its billion plus population.For achieving this goal we need to enhance fruit, vegetables, food grains, pulses, oilseeds, livestock production. More focus on small and marginal farmers to raising agriculture productivity in dry areas. This demands proper coordination, implementation and monitoring of support policies to allocate resources
